Dato' Shyamala Alagendra

Dato’ Shyamala Alagendra is a Malaysian lawyer of 20 years standing. She served as a Prosecution trial lawyer at the SPSC (Timor Leste), SCSL and ICC. She acted as Defence Counsel before the STL, EULEX Court (Kosovo) and at the ICC (in both Kenya cases and is presently Counsel for Saif Al-Islam Gadafi). She also represents victims of human rights violations in several jurisdictions in Africa and Asia. In 2017, Shyamala was elected to the ICCBA Executive Council and re-elected to the Victims Committee.

Jens Dieckmann

Jens Dieckmann est associé principal à Becher & Dieckmann (Bonn, Allemagne) et membre associé à 9 Bedford Row International (Londres). Il a representé des clients au TPIY et CPI. Actuellement, il est représentant légal commun des victims dans l’affaire Banda au CPI. Il est vice président de l’ICDL Germany et membre du comité de l’ADC-ICTY. Il est co-présidié de l’IBA War Crimes Committee. En 2016/2017, il était membre de l’ICCBA Executive Council et du Professional Standards Advisory Committee. En 2017/2018, il est ICCBA vice président pour les Victims et Victims Committee Chair.

Luc Walleyn

Luc Walleyn est avocat au barreau de Bruxelles (Belgique) depuis 1972 et conseil à la Cour Pénale Internationale depuis 2006. Il est représentant légal des victimes dans l’affaire Lubanga et a représenté de nombreuses  victimes de crimes internationaux de plusieurs pays devant les tribunaux Belges. Il enseigne le droit pénal international comme professeur invité à l’University College Leuven-Limburg et à l’Université Libre de Bruxelles et a publié de nombreux articles dans cette matière. Dans le passé, il a été juge suppléant, membre du Conseil de l’Ordre et président de l’ONG’Avocats sans  Frontières (ASF). Il est actuellement membre de l’Exécutif et du comité victimes de l’ABCPI.

Natalie von Wistinghausen

Natalie von Wistinghausen, née en Belgique, a été admise au Barreau de Berlin (Allemagne) en 2001. Elle s’est depuis spécialisée dans la défense pénale et elle a acquis une large expérience juridique en droit pénal national et international. Natalie est aussi inscrite depuis 2009 sur la liste des conseils du Bureau de la Défense au Tribunal Spécial pour le Liban (STL). Elle a été nommée en 2016 co-conseil pour défendre les intérêts et droits d’un des accusés dans l’affaire Le Procureur c. Ayyash et autres.Depuis 2010, Natalie figure sur la liste des conseils de la Cour Pénale Internationale (CPI). Elle a exercé, au Tribunal Pénal International pour le Rwanda (TPIR), les fonctions d’assistante juridique au sein d’une équipe de la défense dans l’affaire Le Procureur c. Bizimungu et autres. Devant le Tribunal Régional Supérieur de Francfort, elle a assuré en tant que conseil principal la défense d’un ancien bourgmestre dans le premier procès de génocide rwandais en Allemagne.Au Printemps 2016, Natalie s’est installée à La Haye avec sa famille. Son bureau est toujours à Berlin (www.nvw-law.com)

Victor Tsilonis is a barrister, member of the Thessaloniki Bar (Greece) and ICCBA’s Focal Point for Greece.  In January 2019 he was also elected for a four-year term as the alternate member of the ICC Disciplinary Board. As a co-founder of NEWLAW (www.newlaw.gr/en), Victor rendered NEWLAW, apart from the first Greek law firm offering online legal services, the first Greek law firm capable of handling international criminal law cases. He has written and presented papers in the field of international criminal law, human rights, criminal justice, data protection and prisoners’ rights.

Edinnah Arati

Edinnah Bosibori Arati joined the International Criminal Court in December 2015.She has over twelve years of private practice with experience in criminal and family law commercial as well as public interest litigation. She has consulted for a joint project of Puntland Center for Human Rights and Democracy (PUNCHAD) and UNHCR project as the senior Legal Consultant providing technical and legal support on Refugee Law and Human Rights in Puntland, Somalia. Her most recent assignment is her appointment to Kenya’s Judiciary Technical Committee on Criminal Justice Reforms in Kenya.

NIGERIA

Charles Adeogun-Phillips

Charles A ADEOGUN-PHILLIPS is an accomplished international lawyer and former international prosecutor.  He is the founding partner of Charles Anthony LLP.    Between 1998 and 2010, he successfully led teams of international prosecutors in 12 precedent setting genocide trials before the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda which spanned over 12 years, making him arguably one of the most experienced and successful genocide prosecutors in history.   

His advisory practice in the area of international criminal and humanitarian law has included providing advice to the Nigerian Government in connection with the preliminary examinations launched by the ICC into alleged crimes against humanity or war crimes committed in the context of armed conflict between “Boko Haram” and the Nigerian security forces; and to the Military Defence Headquarters in Nigeria, following Amnesty International’s allegations of extra judicial killings of “Boko Haram” members by the Nigerian Armed Forces. He also advises various African governments on ICC related transitional justice issues. 

In 2013, Charles successfully represented Christopher Mtikila, the outspoken Tanzanian politician, in his precedent setting case against the Tanzanian Government, before the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, resulting in amendments to Tanzania’s electoral laws to allow for independent candidacy for election to public office.   In November 2016, Charles led the unprecedented corruption trial of a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Sylvester Ngwuta JSC.   

Born in London England, on March 6, 1966, Charles was educated at Repton and read law at Warwick and London universities, following which, he was admitted as a Solicitor of the Superior Courts in England and Wales in 1996 and as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1992.  In December 2019, he was the awarded the honourary degree of Doctor of Laws, LL. D by his alma mater, Warwick University, in recognition of his outstanding work as an international lawyer and advocate.  

He is cited in Creswell’s “Who’s Who in Public International Law” and in the International Yearbook and Statesmen’s Who’s Who. With other leading international criminal law practitioners and/or academics around the world, Charles contributed to the book; International Criminal Investigations: Law and Practice, published by Eleven International at The Hague in 2017.  He is the focal point for Nigeria at the International Criminal Court Bar Association where he previously sat on the Membership and Professional Standards committees. He is also a Council member of the Section of Legal Practice of the Nigerian Bar Association.
